Who Are Hillside Herbs?

Sue McCrea, MSc, ND, RGN, RM, RHV, MCPP, MNIMH

Hillsiide Herbs was established in 2005 and clinics are held regularly by appointment in Rugby, Warwickshire.

Qualifications

BSc(Hons) in Phytotherapy

Sue was awarded a BSc(Hons) degree by the College of Phytotherapy in East Sussex accredited by the University of Wales. 

She was awarded the Hugh Mitchell prize for Materia Medica.


The five year degree course included study of biochemistry, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, materia medica (properties and therapeutics of herbs), medicine, medical laboratory science, nutrition, horticulture, botany, pharmacognosy.

It also required 500 hours of clinical practice.


Sue is a member of both the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy www.thecpp.uk and the National Institute of Medical Herbalists www.nimh.org.uk and adheres to their professional codes of conduct.

Diploma in Naturopathy

Sue studied with the School of Health in Stroud for a Diploma in Naturopathy. This included: Ayurvedic, Chinese, Tibetan and Unani medicine. Homeopathy, naturopathy, homotoxicology, psychosocial wellbeing, iridology, hydrotherapy and oral health and all these elements are included in Sue’s approach to assessment and management of health issues.

Sue also trained as a Nutrition Advisor with the School of Health. Good diet and nutrition are an integral part of maintaining good health and the road to recovery. Nutrition is also an important element of the naturopathic and herbal approach.

Sue trained with Terry Larder (Classical Kinesiology Institute).

MSc(Distinction) in Advanced Clinical Practice

Sue was awarded a Masters degree in Advanced Clinical Practice by the University of Derby.

She worked as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in a variety of settings across the East Midlands.


Other Qualifications

Sue is a Registered General Nurse, Registered Midwife and a Registered Health Visitor.

Clinical Supervisor.

Sue is a Clinical supervisor/trainer for students training for a professional qualification in herbal medicine. On occasions she may have a student with her, as a requirement for their completion of clinical hours. If your appointment is on a day that she has a student, she will ask your permission for their attendance, this will not in any way affect your consultation or management.


Sue also holds student clinic training days on some Saturdays.  Appointments on these days are offered at reduced consultation rates as the consultations are extended to cater for tutoring. if you are interested in participating, please enquire for further details and eligibility. 

These clinics are supervised by Sue.


College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy education committee.

Sue is a participant in the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy education committee. The aim of which, is to examine selective areas of research relevant to herbal medicine, safe and effective practice and patient safety. This information is disseminated to CPP members as part of continuing professional development.
